There are many giving options with possible tax benefits accompanying each choice. Gifts may be tailored to express the donor’s interests and financial situation.
Gifts of Cash
Most donors find that a personal check is the easiest way to make a gift. These donations are fully tax-deductible and have an immediate impact upon the program for which the funds are allocated. Checks should be made out to St. Simon’s Episcopal Church and mailed to:

Another immediate way for donors to contribute is through a credit card gift. These gifts can be made online, or by calling the Office at (818) 302-5216. St. Simon’s accepts Visa, Mastercard and American Express.
A pledge is a commitment to make a donation in the future. Once a pledge is made, the donor will be considered a participant in the campaign and stop receiving solicitations. For tax purposes, a gift is recognized on the date of payment, not the initial pledge date. By making a pledge, a donor defers payment of their gift (in accordance with tax planning or other financial reasons) to a future date of their choosing between now and October 31, 2017. This enables the donor flexibility while allowing the Church to budget for the following year more accurately.
A reoccurring gift allows for a donor to complete their contribution over a period of months. This method can ease the financial strain of a one-time donation, and afford the donor the opportunity to make a larger contribution over time. Reoccurring gifts can be set up with a credit or debit card online, via the Cardinal Fund envelope, or over the phone at (949) 858-5144 ext. 236. Reoccurring gifts to the 2016-2017 Cardinal Fund campaign must be completed by June 30, 2017.
Many employers offer a matching gift program to encourage employees, retirees and their family members support of nonprofit organizations. Your gift could be doubled by your employer, just by completing a form at the time of your contribution. Specific details about your matching gift program can be obtained through the Human Resources Office at your workplace, or you may contact the Advancement Office for assistance. Many businesses also run United Way campaigns; you may designate St. John’s as the recipient of your payroll deduction to this campaign.
Appreciate Stocks or Securities
Gifts of appreciated stocks or mutual fund shares provide immediate support to the school. Donors may realize substantial tax savings by transferring appreciated stock or securities to the School prior to the sale. Capital gains on the amount of appreciation may be avoided, and the donors receive a tax deduction based on the fair market value of the stock or property at the time of the gift, regardless of the purchase price. A number of planned gift vehicles exist for donors to make gifts to a charity over time. Some of these include gifts of life insurance, bequests, remainder trusts and other annuities. Gifts in Kind
Donations of technology, equipment, furniture and other items relevant to our educational program and in good condition are welcome. The donor, through appraisal or record of purchase, determines gift value. If the in-kind gift is of direct and immediate use to St. John’s in fulfilling its mission (such as new computer equipment for instructional use); a donor may deduct the full fair market value. Donations of professional services are also always welcome; however the amount that is tax-deductible may vary depending on the service. It is recommended that you consult a tax advisor to determine what deduction of a gift-in-kind is allowable by law. All gifts-in-kind should be accompanied by a completed donor form.
